How do I reinstall windows for admin ?

Hello, I'm not at all a tech pro so I'm turning to this subreddit for help.

My high school gave all students brand new laptops to help with their studies. The laptops are lended to us and therefore not 100% ours, but we can manipulate (i don't know if that's the right word) the device in order to get admin rights. Students of previous years have done it before and no one cared, the IT teacher even said at the beginning of the year that we can do it, but told us to be careful to not get viruses (by installing softwares to get admin rights i think ?), so what i'm trying to do really isn't new. The only reason i'm coming here is because the 2 people i've asked didn't really remember how they did it and the internet wasn't really helpful, as, once again, i don't know anything about technology and barely could understand the terms used.

From what i've been able to understand, reinstalling windows can get you admin rights ? somehow ??? But apparently it's possible to get locked out of the device because you'll need the old admin password ?

For now I just took everything important off of the computer and put it on a USB stick because I really don't know how to approach this. I feel like I'm overcomplicating this way too much, if so many other students have done it then it can't be that hard, right ?

If any other info is needed i'll try to answer ! i really hope someone can help me with this, i don't want to mess up the laptop because i need it, but the use of it is also very limited. The reason i decided to finally look into getting admin is because i tried to install Meccha Chameleon last night but couldn't due to not being the admin. Like c'mon, let us play games...
