Ancient Egyptian Turquoise Faience Amulet of Maahes quantity

Maahes was known as the son of Ptah and Sekhmet, although varying parentage was also attributed to Bastet and Ra, depending on the centre of worship within Egypt. As the son of Sekhmet, Maahes also favoured her strong nature and was known primarily as a god of war. He was depicted as a lion-headed god, wearing the atef crown and sometimes shown holding a knife or lotus flowers. The latter attribute connects him to another deity, Nefertum, deemed a sibling or half-sibling, depending on the parentage. Due to the nature of hieroglyphs, Maahes’s name is written in a number of ways and can be seen as Mahes, Mayhes. Mihos, Miysis or Mysis. Like most leonine deities, he had a connection to the sun and thus to the pharaoh.
