Cristiano Ronaldo's career with Portugal diminishes his legacy alot

People like to make excuses for Ronaldo that he never won a world cup with Portugal because he played for a nation that never won anything without him. However, Ronaldo also never really performed that well himself imo. All the trophies they won he wasn't their best player? If he really was playing in a bad team, why did that bad team had other players outperforming him in everything they won? And I'm not saying this because he never won the world cup but never scoring a single wc goal is kind of an embarrassing stat. He has played in much much better teams than Messi is doing rn and even then he has never scored 8 goals and we are just past the ro16. When you compare him to other greats his lack of international success really puts him further down in the goat debate imo
