Are my expectations unreasonable when visiting best friend?
hi THT fam! i’m a religious weekly listener but first time poster. i’m looking for some advice about whether my viewpoint when visiting friends is unreasonable.
i have a long-distance best friend who i’ve known for a long time, and we try to visit each other at least a couple times per year. we usually try and keep things as even as possible and take turns flying to one another. in the past few (maybe 3) years, she and her partner have moved progressively farther and farther away from their nearest airport, and a few times, she has suggested me taking the bus to/from the airport instead of her driving me - this bus would be an extra paid ticket, takes about 1.5 hours, and only leaves at specified times, so i’d likely have to wait around at the airport for one.
in my opinion, part of hosting includes prep work like buying extra groceries and airport pickup and drop offs. i live relatively close to an airport now, but in the past have traveled over an hour to the airport for this specific friend several times, and have done so no matter what time she landed or took off.
i honestly don’t want to take the bus and have a hard time seeing the logic from her perspective. she and her partner both have cars that get good gas mileage, and it has been their choice to continue to move farther away from an airport. the idea of an additional 1.5+ hours of travel (with an extra ticket) on my own before even getting to her makes me lose motivation to visit even though i love her and we have the best time together.
would it be unreasonable to set a boundary that i will not take the bus as part of my travels to her? is there a compromise i’m not thinking of? happy to hear any thoughts or ideas as i don’t want this to put a damper on the friendship.
