I'm confused on how to buy avocados. I bought 2 ans they are dark green but hard are they still good to eat ?

I bought 2 dark green avocados , they're hard. I flicked the stem and it's green underneath . Are they still good? how long shouod i wait to use them ? can i use them tommorow or wait ? how can i tell they're ripe ?
