I wanted to share this because I spent wayyyyyyyy too much time trying to solve what should be a simple problem.

A lot of the baby/backseat cameras on Amazon work fine, but the mounting solutions are not ideal. Most use some combination of Velcro straps around the headrest.

They work, but they look messy, shift around, and do not feel like a clean long-term setup.

I wanted something that was:

* Clean
* Adjustable
* Stable
* Not dependent on Velcro
* Not insanely expensive
* Easy to remove or reposition

I looked into more “proper” mounting solutions like custom commercial [Bulletpoint-style headrest bar mounts](https://www.bulletpointmountingsolutions.com/products/headrest-bar-device-mount-with-integrated-20mm-ball-fits-bars-3-8-to-5-8) and modular arms, but to mount two cameras it was going to be close to $100 once you combine the arm, mount, and the correct connectors and adapters. That felt unreasonable since it costs as much or more than the cameras themselves.

The key thing I learned from digging through those setups and reviews is that a lot of these baby cameras use a **nonstandard 15mm ball joint**, so you need something that can accept that size.

Here is the more cost-effective setup I ended up using for two cameras, total cost was around **$21**:

**Parts:**

1. **2 Pack Magic Arm with Dual Ball Head 15mm Ball Joint + 1/4" Screw** Amazon: [https://a.co/d/06D893iQ](https://a.co/d/06D893iQ)
2. **CAMVATE 15mm Single Rod Clamp Adapter with Black Thumbscrew Locking Knob, 2 Pieces - 2217** Amazon: [https://a.co/d/0fQsqQkf](https://a.co/d/0fQsqQkf)

The CAMVATE clamps are small, metal, solid, and adjustable. The threading on the dual ball head arm fits into the CAMVATE clamp perfectly.

The install just like putting Lego pieces together:

1. Clamp the CAMVATE 15mm rod clamp to the headrest post.
2. Attach the magic arm to the clamp using any of the multiple 1/4" threading points
3. Remove one of the 15mm balls from the magic arm.
4. Put the camera’s own 15mm ball joint into the arm instead.
5. Tighten everything down and adjust camera.

That’s it.

It gives you a much cleaner and more adjustable mount than the Velcro setup that comes with most of these cameras. It is also way less bulky than the commercial/custom mount setups I was seeing.

This worked really nicely in my Tesla Model Y, but I imagine it should work in most cars with exposed metal headrest posts.

Not affiliated with any of these products. Just posting in case another parent is annoyed by the janky baby camera mounts and wants something cleaner without spending $100 on commercial mounting hardware for a nonstandard joint.
