Went to the Metro exhibit on national Mall. I must nerd out!

Ugh UGHHHHH I am so into Metro and it was nobody really there to talk to death oh my God. So it was very nostalgic I remembered 1,000 series back when I went to high school I attended McKinley tech. It was trippy sitting down in the old car then going right into the 8,000 series.

Now I get to nerd out.... Yazzzzz. 😈

So immediately when I step onto the 8,000 car series I could tell it was a lighter train than the 7,000 series. And I got my answer because I went to some of the people that were working there I'm like this is definitely lighter than the 7,000 series and they were like yeah it's aluminum and the 7000 is completely sheet metal... And I'm like yeah cuz I remember when they first came out and I sat and rode in one and it was very loud and I could just feel the heaviness of the train grinding on the tracks. I knew that train series was going to have some sort of mechanical problems down the road and it ended up having that wheel set problem. I know it's weird to be able to feel the weight of something without carrying it but when you're enthusiastic about something you just you know you know you know. Plus it's going to have better air flow even though it does have good air condition.

The open gangway is also really nice it's like an accordion like the D40 bus.

Yes I will echo what somebody said here a while ago the seats do feel a little cheap but I know they're being very cautious on the weight of the train as well as the safety. Also I heard we might be getting these around the end of 2028. These are really nice so I know Metro is sweating to get these on the tracks. And I can almost guarantee once we get the 8,000 series they're going to retire to 7000 series really quick. And we won't have to worry about so many closures. But I digress, that's just my opinion lol.

The 8000 series is definitely a huge improvement and I don't think we will have any mechanical problems out that particular series. If anything it slightly shared an aura with the 1,000 series and I see that as a good sign. I feel like the 8,000 series is the 1000 series revamped and better and safer! I think the weight of it might actually be very similar.

Share your experience too or nerd out with me please, lol I love train facts.
