Is resetting the protagonist's power halfway through the story a bad idea?
Hi everyone!
I'm a beginner fantasy writer from Indonesia, and I'm currently working on my original story.
I have an idea where my protagonist starts the story as someone very powerful because of events from a previous story. However, later he loses almost all of his power and has to grow again from nearly zero while dealing with trauma from his past.
The reset isn't meant to make him weaker forever. It's meant to force him to rely on his experience, swordsmanship, and character rather than overwhelming power.
My goal is to make his second journey feel more meaningful than his first.
As a reader or writer, would this make you more interested in the protagonist, or would you find it frustrating? Why?
I'd really appreciate your honest thoughts. Thanks!
