My son’s switch 1 does not charge and I don’t know wether but a switch 1 or 2 or repair it

A couple of days ago my son’s (11) switch stopped charging, we bought it 3 years ago more or less, we all use it quite a lot. He plays Minecraft, FC25, fornite, tomodachi…. And we play Animal crossing (we have quite a lot of games, cards one and digital. But we also have a Play 4 and a a gaming computer.
I want to repair it(al least try or ask for a repair estimate) but he wants to buy a new one.
Is it worth it to buy a switch 2 , do we buy a 1 or try for a repair ??
I have to add that one of the joy con it’s a bit damaged too, it’s case is broken
