My Favorite Kitchen Traditions
Growing up we weren't big on fancy recipes, but we definitely had little kitchen traditions that somehow stuck. Every Sunday morning somebody had to make pancakes, and if you burned the first one... congrats, that's the chef's snack lol.
Whenever we cooked pasta, everyone would "taste test" it like five different times before dinner was even ready. Pretty sure half the meal disappeared before it hit the table.
Around the holidays we'd all squeeze into the kitchen, bumping into each other nonstop, arguing over the "right" way to chop onions or season stuff. Nobody actually agreed, but somehow the food always turned out great.
Now that I live on my own, I catch myself doing the same random things without even thinking. I still sneak a bite while cooking, still make way too much food when friends come over, and I still save the last cookie for whoever walks into the kitchen next.
It's kinda funny how the smallest kitchen habits end up feeling more special than the recipes themselves.
