“If your female love interest can be replaced with a dog and nothing changes, she’s a terribly written character”

I heard this advice recently, and I decided to put it to the test by changing the main characters in my lesbian furry smut from cats to dogs. Sure enough, the plot was unaffected. I decided to remove them from the story completely, and now I’m left with a bunch of scenes of empty bedrooms. What do I do?
