One thing that stands out in this market is how quickly capital can move toward AI.

SK Hynix just raised roughly $26.5 billion through its U.S. listing, even after semiconductor stocks had cooled off from earlier highs. That tells me investors still have a strong appetite for companies tied to AI infrastructure.

The slower story is everything beneath the servers.

More chips eventually mean more data centers, more power demand, more substations, more transmission lines, more transformers, and more electrical equipment. Copper sits somewhere in almost every step of that chain.

The timeline difference is what keeps my attention. AI spending can ramp up in a few quarters. Bringing meaningful new copper supply online can take many years.

That doesn't mean every junior explorer is suddenly a great investment. Most exploration projects never become operating mines. Companies still have to deal with financing, drilling results, metallurgy, permitting, and construction.

For larger-cap exposure, I look at BHP and Freeport-McMoRan (FCX). They already produce copper at scale and give direct exposure to the market today.

Among smaller companies, I try to separate them by development stage. CAM.V is further along with drilled mineralization at Carmacks, including reported intercepts such as 87 meters of 0.63% copper and 0.15 g/t gold, and the company has outlined a larger drill program for 2026. NovaRed Mining (NRED / NREDF) sits much earlier in the process with the Wilmac project in British Columbia and MetalCore being used as a data and target-generation platform. There is no resource estimate, mine, or production yet, so the focus is still on exploration progress.

The common thread is copper demand. The difference is where each company sits on the timeline between exploration and actual production.

NFA. When you think about the AI buildout, are you mostly watching the chip makers, or are you also looking at the metals and power infrastructure that have to be built around them?

Wall Street Can Fund AI in Months. Copper Supply Doesn't Move That Fast.
