Power Supply Vs new console

I have a 1.6 revision xbox that I don't know if it works. I bought it untested and the internal power supply that came with it had burn marks on it, so I still don't know if it works. Should I just get a replacement psu for ~$40 or am I better off spending the extra money on a new console? ~$50-60
