Will GTAVI be the beginning of a "new universe?"
Not really speculation so much as just a fan discussion!
Most GTA fans will know that prior mainline games have long been categorized by the community into different "universes" mostly based on the level of graphic fidelity, and physics enhancements.
2D Universe: GTA, GTA2
3D Universe: GTAIII, GTAVC, GTASA
HD Universe: GTAIV, GTAV, GTAO(?)
4K Universe(?): GTAVI?
Each "universe" jump symbolizes a complete overhaul of game systems, physics models, and graphics in order to modernize the game. Within each universe, there is hardly any significant change; rather, the games become more polished or more content-heavy.
Going on the widespread assumption that GTAVI will run on a modified version of RDR2's RAGE Engine, do we think GTAVI will represent a significant enough jump in graphics and physics to be considered the start of a new "universe" within the GTA continuum?
