I get why everyone's obsessed with Obsession
Hi everybody!
Probably I'm the last person on the planet who watched Obsession several days ago, here's my opinion.
-
I wouldn't call it a really HORROR film, I would call it a character study in horror circumstances
-
There is nothing I disliked about the film
-
There are some things I truly LOVED, which are:
- the performance of the actor who plays Bear: he goes from a dork to a sexy beast in a millisecond.
-the physicality of the actress who plays the main character: her body is like a real tool to depict horror — distorted movements, especially in the scene where there's a dead girl sitting in a chair, that freaked me out
- makeup for the yuck scenes and physical effects: kudos to the creators!
Can I say I'll rewatch it? No.
Can I say it's in my top horror films? Also no.
But there's something in this sticky atmosphere. I think the actors did a great job, really. I was invested throughout the whole film.
You know, I also saw a reel yesterday about horror films which claimed that millennials were scared of monsters and gen z is scared of real life. That's such a superficial take, you know))) All of the horrors we used to like (I'm a millennial) are about real life: fear of being neglected and abandoned, of being lost.
It is cool though that modern horror is having a second, or even third revival, and explores even deeper topics like codependence, for example.
