how does one get clients as a beginner?

several years ago, i took a cosmetology course but i ended up dropping out and went back to college and later transferred to a university. i’ve been working an office job now, but lately i’ve been thinking about attempting to go back into cosmetology. styling hair has always been a passion of mine, i dropped out from cosmetology school back then because of some personal issues i was having and i deeply regret it.

as a beginner, would i have to be working two jobs? keep working my office job and also work part time as a stylist until i build a clientele? i’m going in with the idea that i’ll be doing this as a hobby, but of course i would love for it to be my main source of income.

but how does one even get clients to begin with? is it all mainly just through social media advertising? i’m relatively new to my area so i don’t know much people, and im scared i wont be able to build a clientele.
