Ubisoft, Edward Isn’t Late for Work. Let Him Walk.
First of all, Black Flag Resinc has been an absolute joy to play. The world looks gorgeous, the naval combat is still dangerously addictive, and Edward Kenway remains one of the best protagonists Ubisoft has ever written.
Now… who convinced Edward that every outing is a life-or-death emergency?
The moment I push the left stick all the way forward, he takes off like he’s remembered he left the stove on in Nassau.
Can the man… relax?
One of my favorite things about the original was its pace. Walking through Havana, strolling around a pirate hideout, or simply taking in the world felt natural. If I wanted to sprint across rooftops like a lunatic, I made that decision by holding the sprint button.
Now the game makes that decision for me.
It’s a pirate adventure, not a 5K marathon.
I’m not asking Ubisoft to remove the new controls. If people like them, fair enough. But please give us an “Original Controls” option.
Let Edward walk like the charismatic pirate he is not like he’s three minutes late to his annual employee performance review at Abstergo.
Choice has never hurt anyone… except maybe the guards watching me accidentally sprint into restricted areas because I wanted to appreciate the scenery.
Ubisoft, the remake is fantastic.
Now let me stop speedwalking through one of the best worlds you’ve ever created.
