Golf for beginners?

My husband is a somewhat inexperienced and very occasional golfer. He is thinking of playing, and perhaps becoming a member, at the Griff public golf course in Greenwich. However, the reviews, though admittedlydated, are much less than complementary about the staff, especially the starter and rangers. Has anything changed, such that this would be a welcoming environment for him?
