Just finished my first colonoscopy and so glad I finally had it done. Sutab prep was great. Writing this as a huge thank you to this wonderful community.
Just wanted to check in and say thank you. I referred to countless posts here leading up to my procedure.
I have been putting off getting my first colonoscopy for six years now. First routine screening would have been due during the crazy 2020 Covid times so just finally made it happen. I was really nervous due to a horror story someone told someone told me twenty years ago that stuck in my brain. So glad I finally worked myself past this paranoia.
Sutab prep was honestly not that bad at all considering all I hear about the other prep options. I started eating a low-residue diet about 4 days prior… mainly scrambled eggs, white toast, plain bagels, applesauce, coconut water, apple juice, white cranberry juice, soup broth etc. Figured I would have less to shoot out the poop shoot and I think this really helped. Also lots of hydrating.
On the liquids only day, I read a tip here on ordering won ton soup from a Chinese restaurant and straining anything solid out for the liquids only day. That broth was so helpful and delicious.
I spaced out the pills every 90 seconds with the required water. Really no nausea or cramping or gas to speak of. The diarrhea comes on fast for sure. I really had almost nothing solid coming out from the start.
For bowel movements, I was pre-lubed with Vaseline and re-lubed after each toilet visit. I also ordered the peri-bottle squirt bottle thing to use after each diarrhea bout. Basically never wiped with TP… just dabbed dry at the end. Then I would put on another Vaseline smear to be there ready before the next diarrhea session. Undies did get way too Vaselined so one pair went in the trash but worth it.
All went really well. I never had a sore booty. Poop was at desired yellow pee-like stage by 11pm night before the procedure. (My doctor recommends prep a bit earlier than usual Sutab instructions, but follow your doctor’s orders of course).
She even gave me a low dose anti-anxiety pill I took at 11pm and sleep until 5am. Woke up, one more clear/yellow diarrhea then a nice shower then off to the hospital for prep.
All went great. No polyps. 🙏🏼 All super clean from the prep.
I am just relaxing at home watching TV. Enjoying my oatmilk latte, crackers, hard boiled egg and bagel. Taking small bites and not wanting to blast back in right away haha.
Anyhow, I hope that helps someone prepping for this. Wishing you all the nicest possible prep and lovely colonoscopies.
(Also y’all weren’t kidding about that amazing colonoscopy anesthesia sleep. Sooo nice.)
