TIFU By Letting A Random Old Man Take Me Home

M

Today (really like last week) I fucked up by letting a random old man take me home. Basically just a few weeks ago, I moved a few cities away from my hometown to go to college. I’m getting settled and I have my dorm that I’m decorating and unfortunately no car. That’s fine not everyone has a car. Luckily, I was able to get a bike from a family member. Now this is a nice bike—It seems pretty expensive and it’s a mountain bike. It’s nice and smooth riding but unfortunately it’s been sitting in my dad’s basement for a while in the tire is flat. After a little bit, I eventually finally go to a bike shop nearby to pump up the tire. I leave it there over the weekend to make sure the tire doesn’t get flat. Just making sure there is no hole in it or anything or the tubes don’t need to be replaced. I walk the bike there on a Thursday and the staff is really nice. They pump up my tires and I say I will retrieve it on Monday. Now while I’m there there’s this old man and he commented on how my bike looks really nice. In fact, he’s actually commenting on it a lot. Now this is where the F up happens. He offers me a ride home. I tell him it’s a 15 minute walk and he says I don’t need to be walking that far in this heat (which in retrospect isn’t even a long way to walk and I literally did walk there with a bike that same day). Now I’m in 18 year-old girl and reasonably I’m suspect of him. This is a lesson to me and anyone who sees this, but do NOT be a people pleaser. I’m uncomfortable, but I give in. I mean it is a two-door car so I assume there’s no child lock or anything so I could really jump out whenever I wanted to if he tried to kidnap me or something (bad idea). Once I leave the shop, I started walking home because I really didn’t wanna get in his car and maybe if he saw me started to walk home he’d just let me go, but no, he’s like basically “Where are you going? You can just take my car.” I’m hesitant, but obviously stupid me took it anyways. Anyways he takes me to my school, which is literally right around the corner, so close in fact that we were basically still on the campus at the bike shop and it’s a very popular college in my state. In the car, I understand that he knows the school that we’re going to. He recognizes it and I even tell him what I’m majoring in. At the bike shop I had to tell them my name for the bike order reciept (In retrospect I’m thinking about how he probably knows my name, my major and my school🥲). Anyways!! Monday comes around, I walk back there to retrieve my bike. Everything’s good for a little bit I even ride it to the store the next day. Friday comes around. No I don’t remember the last time I saw the bike because I just absentmindedly walk past it to class every day, but after coming back from being gone, I noticed it’s gone and my bike lock is destroyed on the ground next to where it used to be locked up. I immediately filed a police report with my campus police. Now I think the F up is letting that guy take me back to the school. Which is where my dorm is (which I think he knows) because after he complimented my bike so much and got where I LIVE, my bike suspiciously goes missing later that week. So basically, I effed up by letting a suspicious old thief man take me home after leaving the bike shop. I usually never post on Reddit tbh so I hope y’all like my story please hope for my bike to come back to me. I can’t just walk everywhere.😔😔😔

TL;DR: today I effed up by letting an old suspicious man drive me home from the bike shop (so he knows where I live, and where the bike is locked up) after he took too much interest in my bike and now my bike is missing.🫩
