Last night’s Bible study hit me harder than I expected.
I’m Hindu by upbringing, but over the past year I’ve been attending a weekly Bible study with my roommate and some friends. Last night we read part of Matthew 6, and one section stopped me in my tracks:
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?… Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow… But seek first the kingdom of God… Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” (Matthew 6:27–34)
I’ve struggled with anxiety and mental health for years. I’ve spent so much of my life worrying about the future, trying to control outcomes that I ultimately couldn’t control.
When I read these verses, it honestly felt less like I was reading an ancient text and more like God was speaking directly to me: “Everything will be okay. Trust Me. Focus on today.”
I know Christians have read this passage countless times, but for someone encountering it with fresh eyes, it felt incredibly personal. I left Bible study feeling lighter than when I arrived.
For those of you who have been Christians much longer than I have been exploring the faith, do you remember the first passage that made you feel like God was speaking directly to you? I’d love to hear your stories.
