Why Not Invite Some CONMEBOL teams to 2027 Gold Cup?

USMNT

I know there are discussions of hosting the 2028 Copa America, but IMO CONCACAF should consider inviting some CONMEBOL teams to the 2027 Gold Cup (between 2-6 teams).

The Gold Cup obviously needs some juice. The US continues to bring B and C squads to its region’s major tournament, which is a problem.

There’s a history of CONMEBOL teams participating in the Gold Cup: Brazil (3 times), Colombia (3 times), Peru (once), and Ecuador (once).

I would think you’d try to land Brazil and Argentina amongst the teams, but even if those two big fish wouldn’t participate, other South American sides would still be formidable opponents. And you’d incentivize the US, Mexico, and Canada to bring A squads or risk being embarrassed by invited CONMEBOL teams.

It would provide the tournament with some much-needed excitement and credibility. And if CONCACAF insists on continuing to have the Gold Cup every two years, the 2029 Gold Cup (which coincides with the Club World Cup) could be the more B/C squad version.
