Terrified - 73 year old dad has 8 cm mass in right lung

I’ve never been so terrified in my life. My dad has always been fit and relatively healthy (no diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure etc.)

He randomly developed a cough and we all assumed it was a cold until he finished the meds his doctor prescribed and the cough never went away. He did an xray and ct scan and they found an 8 cm mass along with nodules in his right lung. His left lung was clear. He has also lost weight but otherwise is functioning as he normally would.

We have a biopsy and ct scan for his abdomen already scheduled at Sunnybrook in Toronto. But just waiting to find out what it is has been absolutely torturous. The ct scan says they suspect lymphoma and the doctor at Sunnybrook said he’s 80% sure it’s cancer.

Can anyone offer any words of comfort? This is all so new to my family and I we don’t have much knowledge about any of this. Thank you in advance and hope you are all well 🙏🏼🙏🏼
