Ice Lab has been one of the newest kids on the ever-growing block of IEMs. Just like another brand that has positioned two of its IEMs across two separate price points (the Hercules Audio Noah and Moses), here I have the Moses-esque counterpart from this new brand: the Spectrumica. There are quite a few things that are good, and a few things that are bad, and I have tried my best to reflect upon both aspects of this IEM, which comes in at a near eye-watering price of $1,800 to $2,000 depending on the retailer. **This is not a sponsored review, neither by the brand nor by any retailer. A friend from my local community loaned me this set, so I thank him for making this review possible.**

**Also I am now on YouTube, so** [here's the video review of the Spectrumica if interested.](https://youtu.be/nBR_4zyOLdI?si=GymStN593Ye_oF5C)

# Unboxing, Accessories, Fit, and Comfort

The Spectrumica comes inside a box, which is in another box, which is again in another box with very minimal branding: very Matryoshka of Ice Lab. Once the boxes have been unboxed, the whole assortment is seen beneath the transparent lid. The IEM shells are nestled in adequate packaging, and to the side lies the carry case where, in my situation, my donor aptly sent out a Moondrop zippered puck. The serial number and warranty information come mounted on a metal plate, which further accentuates the unboxing experience, and the eartips themselves are also displayed on a separate metal plate. Ice Lab packs in Eletech Baroque eartips, along with a batch of regular and liquid silicone tips. There is also an accessories box that contains a cleaning tool and a microfiber cloth.

The Spectrumica is one of those IEMs that can be blindly recommended only if the fit is right, as the shells are quite bulbous and heavy. There are micro grooves across the shells with "Spectrumica" written in cursive, and they look a bit steampunk-ish to me. I did have fatigue with this IEM once I crossed the two-hour mark, and the cable does not help despite being very well made: it is quite heavy and adds even more weight to the IEMs through the ear hooks. I had the greatest discomfort around the intertragal notch and the antitragus, where I had to take the IEMs out momentarily just to give my ears some respite. So, if your ears can bear more weight, then the Spectrumica will likely cause you less fatigue. I have worn heavier, larger IEMs than the Spectrumica, the FatFreq Grand Maestro being one of them, but the way the Spectrumica is molded does not help its case. Some additional contouring focused on the anatomy of the ear would have gone a long way toward making this a significantly more comfortable IEM for extended listening sessions.

The rambling has been excessive, so here is the sound.

# Sound Impressions

# Lows

**Tipper:** ***Mariscos*** The Spectrumica makes the entire track sound very dramatic. The way the bass pulsates and ripples off before the drop is well executed, and once the drop hits, that bass hit is surreal. It extends pretty deep in its impact, and despite that immensely pronounced hit, the rest of the elements in this track remain untouched. They cut through that significantly large bass, making the sound and feel very cohesive.

**RATM:** ***Bombtrack*** The bass rumbles along the guitar through the intro distinctly. Once the drums kick in, the kicks definitely overshadow the bass, but even out exactly at the chorus. The Spectrumica definitely has confusion about what it wants to prioritize or run parallel. Since it has the wicked tendency to let the kicks crowd over the bass, separation prima facie does not seem to be its strongest suit, and vocals on this track felt minutely thinner.

**Daft Punk:** ***Get Lucky*** In this track, the perceived interference with the bass seems to have resolved. Both the drums and the bass sound distinct from each other and deliciously thick. Other elements like cymbals are given their proper due to be recognized, though they clearly come off with a hint of sibilance. Vocals feel minutely pushed back, but nothing concerning.

**RUSH:** ***Limelight*** The Spectrumica covers the fundamentals on this track seamlessly. The overly warm tonality works very well with how the toms come off; the impact is soft and crisp, with the kicks demonstrating a fast, snappy attack but a sluggish decay. This affects the bass in a way; however, it does not ruin the overall sound at all. Towards the end of the track, as Peart delivers upon his final rudiments, there is a lack of detail which does not let the strokes on the toms shine as much as I would have wanted, but the cymbals taper off with a distinct separation. Vocals and guitars have adequate weight and body to them.

# Mids

**Queens of the Stone Age:** ***First It Giveth*** If you expected detail from this IEM on this track, you will be disappointed. The bass on this IEM has an adverse impact on how clear the snare hits should have sounded. The way the bass is let up on this track, it should have accompanied the drums but instead edges out the snares. Guitars sound full and hit heavy, the vocals are planted, and despite diminishing detail compared to other sets in its class, cymbals on this track have their spotlight intact and demonstrate great imaging. I just wished the snares sounded crisper with cleaner separation.

**Tool:** ***Lateralus*** Once again, the Spectrumica does not pretend to be an analysis-driven set. Before I indulge further, I must say that the overly warm tonality proves to be a bit fatiguing and could have used some restraint, and that is all the bad. The washing bass through the breakdown comes with a very bold, fierce temperament. The rudiments have a redemptive arc in terms of detail and separation, but the sluggishness dampens the perception. Cymbals sound textured and somewhat crisp, though guitars and vocals could have sounded less warm.

**Alf Linder:** ***Cantate Domino*** I did not expect this IEM to do this well on this track. The keys, while sounding less warm, had the timbre checked with the horns. What impressed me the most here was how wide the perceived stage was; it let the notes from both the choir and the keys breathe, and the timbre on the horns especially, was noteworthy. This time, the layers of separation amongst the elements were commendable.

# Highs

**Dave Brubeck:** ***Take Five*** Tonality on the pianos felt warmer than usual; the timbre on the horns was untouched. The snares and cymbals had good separation, and texture was preserved aptly. The cymbals specifically had a good shimmer and did not come off shouty. Onwards from the 3:10 mark, when the drums start getting bold, the resonance, especially on the floor tom and the snares, was magnificent and carried a lot of weight.

**Patricia Barber:** ***Icarus*** Here, the bass clearly feels bloated, and this surely hampered the beauty of the drums in this track. Patricia's luxurious vocals otherwise have a tinge of sibilance, while the guitar felt very laid back. Towards the 3:35 mark when Patricia starts her straight sustain, tonality was planted but definitely came off thin and piercing. There are sets in its class which perform far better on tracks like these.

**PinkPantheress:** ***Stateside*** The fun is once again back where the synths come off faintly shouty, but the bass punches in without distortion and with great quantity. Surprisingly, this does not affect the weight of the vocals, though Zara's part definitely sounded warmer than usual. I still vibed very hard on this track due to how good the bass felt alongside the rest.

# Comparisons

* [64Audio Volür:](https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/C7sHIAnhNi) Here is my review of the Volür for those who might want a more elaborate opinion, but to summarize: the Volür does a considerably better job than the Spectrumica while coming in with a much better fit. If someone needs a stronger, more pronounced bass impact with heavier note weight, especially in electronic music, then the Spectrumica can be considered. Otherwise, I am personally picking the Volür nine out of ten times.

* [FiR Audio Project K:](https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/4LTDbG7kMk) Here is my review of the Project K for a better read, and I am considering a comparison with Spectrumica because both IEMs lean towards a good degree of warmth. The Project K is also more expensive, but that yields a significantly improved sound, which also comes in a significantly smaller footprint and much better build quality. The improvements come in the form of a delightfully faster transient speed, cleaner separation, better imaging, and a considerably less shouty presentation through the highs.

* **Symphonium Titan:** Now, this could be an apples to oranges comparison to some, and I will agree it is. The Titan is leagues more aggressive in its delivery of the lows and will come off more fatiguing through the highs, not to mention it is a power-hungry IEM too. But if, and ONLY IF, the Spectrumica fits and one might not want to give up on the warmth that the Spectrumica brings, I think this is a set worth keeping. If the Titan can be seen as a one-trick pony, the Spectrumica gives you a full dismissal of the Titan, as I feel that the way Spectrumica handles more genres with a lot of flavor and still keeps most of the technical aspects intact, is something that gives it a better argument than keeping the Titan. If it was me, I would have kept both.

* **Empire Ears Raven and the Volk Audio Etoile:** Well, given I have heard both of these IEMs from the same family, and I held the Raven alongside the Spectrumica, I felt that for a lesser amount, the Spectrumica delivered more than what both the Raven and the Etoile set out to do. Both Raven and Etoile have a very disappointing build quality as compared to this while costing significantly more. Both the Raven and Etoile exhibit characteristics of driver flex despite how both IEMs handle the delivery of the lows, especially through the mid-bass in a clearer, more pronounced form. The Spectrumica for me wins the argument by simply being more versatile compared to them.

* [Noble Audio Agis 2:](https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/8TH6JOVHUI) Here is my review of the Agis 2 and all I am going to say is: better fit, better tonality, less fatigue, better technicalities at around the same price at retail. Agis 2, in my feeble opinion, is a set that has flown under the radar for the most part.

* [FatFreq Grand Maestro:](https://www.reddit.com/r/inearfidelity/s/Zh2Do6uQKb) In my book, it is criminal on FatFreq’s part to have made something of this stature sound so vividly diverse, so capable, yet give it a fit which eliminates a majority of the population from experiencing what the "Grand" means in its name. Yet the Spectrumica manages to deliver the most of it in a more affordable package. But if someone has the option to get the Grand Maestro in a CIEM, by all means, the money is well damn worth it for me. Especially, the amount of changes that both the switches and the tuning modules bring in here is something worth keeping PROVIDED IT FITS, and read here to know more about this IEM.

* [Elysian Apostle 2026: ](https://guiltygamer.com/elysian-apostle-2026-review/)I am going to summarize this in one line: I request you to please try this IEM and see it for yourself. If there was one IEM I could choose for the rest of my life and not look back, it would be this. The Spectrumica looks so overpriced in comparison to this. The Apostle 2026 is my benchmark for “what $1000 of trinkets that go inside your ear should sound like.”

# Concluding Notes

Credit where credit is due, Ice Lab decided to be loud and bold, and they definitely got very close to the finish line for me. To be frank, it did cross the line but there is more to be done with regards to that performance. If it wants to reach the podium, then it will need to run faster, much faster, clock better lap times, and shed some physical weight off because the fundamentals are there; what it needs is better execution.

***B+*** for a well-fought effort.
