Well damn…

I had a Marjolin ulcer on my right leg, that ultimately was the reason for my RBkA back in October of last year. In short, a Marjolin ulcer is an aggressive squamous cell carcinoma that grows (for unknown reasons) from a long-standing wound that does not heal. That said, with amputation and large groin lymph node coming back as negative for cancer, I went on to a strong recovery/great success with prosthetic.

Unfortunately, and in what I otherwise thought was a routine follow-up, a CT scan of my abdomen and chest last Tuesday has revealed metastatic cancer in my kidney and lung. Will have biopsy, but oncologist is certain it is from original Marjolin ulcer

I’m posting this not for sympathy, but because this group has always been so supportive. I will have immunotherapy, and who knows….maybe I will be one of the incredibly fortunate few who make it. But in reality, I very likely have months - maybe a year - in front of me.

Actually, in reading what I just wrote, maybe I am posting this for sympathy, or maybe because I know this is a safe space to share. I’m experiencing about a hundred different feelings every other minute, so still trying to process, as is my wife and family. Sigh….I apologize: I’m not making much sense….just wanted to get out some of confusion/fear/worry/sadness…like I said, about a hundred different emotions swirling around my head.
