Feminists, share something (about yourself)!

Feminist Books, Films, TV

I am new to this sub, I thought I might as well make a post to try and get to know some of you guys!

As for sharing something, I wanted to share how the very first seeds of feminism were sown into me (sounds so wrong 💀)

Thankfully my family is pretty good when it comes to treating women. It's not full blown feminism, and we have our own HUGE issues (even in regards to things like women eating during periods), but for example I was treated the worse out of all my cousin sisters and got blamed for any mischief for being a boy XD

But there's still a lot of hidden misogyny that needs to be rooted out at a young age. My mom had this book called "औरत के हक में" (Pronounced - "Aurat kay huck may", meaning - "In (a) woman's right"), written by Talsima Nasreen. It's a beautiful book, that describes the lives of women in India at some point in recent history. Instead of studying, I used to steal and read story books (horror, thriller, you name it) from my mom's cabinet. When I found this one, it was in a pretty bad shape, and some of the pages were missing. I turned to a page, which describes (TW: Physical injury) ||some men burning cigerettes on the writer's friend's arm, just for fun||.

I ended up reading the entire book, honestly not understanding half of it, but that was a very surreal experience in my opinion.

Anyways, if you have anything to share, please do! Books, friends, stories, hobbies, anything!

I'd love to keep this light hearted, but if you have anything heavy to share, please don't hesitate either!

And take care, all of you 🫶
