Amex Plat Trip Disruption / Trip Insurance Coverage Question
I think this has been asked multiple times but would like someone to help verify that I probably would get nothing from Amex's insurance.
**-- Context --**
My trip:
\- Seattle -> Singapore -> Taiwan using cash booked by my partner.
\- Taiwan -> Seattle booked for me only **using Amex Plat travel portal**
My partner's trip:
\- Seattle -> Singapore -> Taiwan using cash booked by my partner.
\- Taiwan -> Seattle booked with Alaska points
Taiwan was hit with a major typhoon and the flight was cancelled. The carrier did NOT reschedule both of us and we only received a cancellation email.
My partner and I reached out to Alaska and Amex respectively as soon as we got the cancellation email. Alaska got my partner rebooked on a different, earlier flight so that we can dodge the Typhoon.
My Amex rep tried to call the airline, but could not contact them. So Amex emailed them and asked me to just wait. I was pretty pissed because they expected me to just be stuck in Taiwan during a Typhoon and possibly delay my return for half a week. So I was left with two options as I spoke with the Amex rep:
- Rebooked using cash to match my partner, but only spots left were business class. No economy was available (they checked)..
- Wait until airline responds in email and deal with trip delays.
I went with option 1, otherwise, i get separated with my partner and unknown about rebooking. Airline did NOT rebook us btw nor did they communicate with Amex nor Alaska for us both.
**-- Question --**
So this leads me to my question, will insurance go through due to what's clearly a weather disruption? Or will I get fucked because the first leg of my trip, wasn't booked and paid with my Amex card....
