Can I include family business and informal work experience on my CV in India if there's no documentation?
Hi everyone,
I'm from India and graduated with a BA in Economics in 2024. Since then, I've completed a Data Science certification and prepared for my Master's entrance exams. I didn't get into the college I wanted, so I've decided to wait and continue applying for jobs instead.
I've been job hunting for almost a year, but I think my lack of formal work experience is hurting my chances.
Over the past year, I've been helping in my father's business, mainly managing day-to-day operations, coordinating workers, and ensuring work gets done. I also worked part-time for a logistics company, but it was an informal role with no offer letter, contract, salary slips, or other documentation. The same applies to the family business.
Can I honestly list these experiences on my CV? Do recruiters in India generally consider this valid experience? If I clear interviews, will background verification become a problem because I don't have official employment documents?
I'd appreciate any advice from recruiters, hiring managers, or anyone who's been in a similar situation. Thanks!
