Need troubleshooting ideas

Big Problem With Logistics

I could really use some troubleshooting ideas because I’m feeling a bit stuck.

I was supposed to move internationally tomorrow (Berlin → Madrid), but a new regulation affecting the vehicle sizes many moving companies use for European relocations has caused my movers to delay the move by at least a week. I only found out a few hours ago.

Originally, I planned to stay in my apartment until the end of the month. However, the incoming tenant was starting a new job in the middle of the month, so I agreed to be flexible and move out earlier to make things easier for her. I did explain that, with an international move, I needed some buffer in case something unexpected happened. She agreed and said I could stay a few extra days if needed.

Unfortunately, the delay is now longer than that buffer. When I told her what happened, her response was essentially that it wasn’t her problem because she had already arranged her own move from southern Germany.

I’m now in a difficult position. I can’t find another moving company at such short notice. All of my belongings are here in Berlin, I have a dog, and finding temporary accommodation that can take me, my dog, and all of my possessions is proving very difficult.

Renting a vehicle and dropping it off in Spain would cost well over €1,000 per day, which isn’t realistic.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Has anyone dealt with a similar last-minute international moving delay? Any practical ideas would be greatly appreciated.
