EU is pressuring Caribbean CBI programs to shut down by 2028. Is anyone rethinking their second passport plans?
According to recent reports, the European Commission has sent formal letters to the five Caribbean CBI countries: Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts, and St Lucia. The letters reportedly ask them to phase out citizenship-by-investment programs by June 2028.
If they don’t, their citizens could risk losing visa-free access to the Schengen Area.
That feels pretty significant, since Schengen access is one of the main reasons many people consider Caribbean CBI in the first place. The appeal has always been clear: relatively fast processing, no relocation requirement, family inclusion, and decent mobility.
Curious how people here are reading this.
Does this change anyone’s timeline?
Would you still consider a Caribbean program now, or would you look at other options like Malta, Turkey, or possibly Argentina if it actually launches?
Or is it too early to react until we see how the Caribbean governments respond?
Also interested to hear from anyone w
