My first (and last?) foster

Story Sharing

I just said goodbye to my first, and possibly last, foster about a week ago. We actually picked him up from the people surrendering him and he was full please.

He gave my dog those fleas and my dog has a flea allergy so I've spent $500 treating my dog to get him back to a normal state.

But that wasn't the biggest issue. The poor dog was an unknown to the rescue and he was about 10 years old, its estimated.. and full of health problems. He has a heart murmur, spinal issues, he had an enlarged prostate and bladder stones, a cyst in his eye that could be cancerous... You name it and this dog probably had it.

He was very sweet but he couldn't even stand up on his own. If you lifted his rear end he could stand although he often fell again...

Medications at least twice a day visits to the regular vet and specialists...

But the real issue was that he would bark every morning at 2:00 a.m. And often again at 4:00. So for over 2 months we didn't get any decent sleep and were just completely exhausted.

We finally begged the rescue to find another foster home for him when he had an acute medical emergency vet and had to be rushed to the emergency vet because of his spine...

They agreed and they found another home within a few days.

And the place seems so empty without him. I really missed him. My dog missed him going on walks too even though they pretty much ignored each other in the house.

Funny how that works...

He still hasn't been adopted because of his health issues. He had a UTI on top of all of this and they are waiting for that antibiotic to work before they give him his rabies shot. So little was known about him that they have to give him one.

But I hope he finds a home and I hope he stops barking in the middle of the night!
