Is the story worth reading?

I only got this game originally to please a friend, but then I ended up really liking Don so I played through the story skipping all the dialogue so I could get the lunacy from ex clears. I just finished canto 9 and was wondering if I should go back and read the story in the theatre or if its just not worth it. And if it is worth it, do I read the intervallos too?
