Was I too harsh and an ah to my audhd friend? (Vent / Serious opinion needed.)
【Past】 So I've been friends with this dude for years. We didn't talk much, and it's an online friendship. First, we met through social media, and we were very supportive of each other. Then we kind of drifted apart due to busy schedules. If I remember correctly, he posted something personal of mine, I talked with him and told him I don't want that information of mine to be public, and he took it down. It was very respectful back then. Even though we did not talk much, we continued to like eachothers posts and stories.
‐------
【Recently】 I've begun talking to him again. But the stories he posts have been more religious. And his attitude changed too. I reached out, and we talked about eachothers preferences to get to know each other better. I would send "Amen" to his prayers he sent me. And I sent him posts about the things he likes, too.
He would send me lots of bible verses and Christian motivational quotes as posts, and sometimes they felt a bit triggering and uncomfortable to me. I was pretty clear about my preferences, too. I am a bit of an atheist. I'm still figuring out what I should truly follow and what are good things about each religion that I should follow. I also think the Bible is a manwritten scripture, so I wasn't exactly too fond of it, but there's really good things in there, but also some weird things. I've made my preferences clear.
So when he sends me things that I do not feel really comfortable being shared with me, we would kind of do a back and forth.
●Let me give you examples: I've posted a story about how I was treated badly by a male church member and how they put the blame on the devil and on the man that treated me badly, but the other members kind of said things like it's the devil getting to me through that man. Also, the church was teaching and telling things like God's giving tests and etc.
After that, my friend sent me a post about how God wrote the life of me. I felt triggered. I said that's triggering to me, and he understood it and apologised. But then he doubled down. Sending a bible quote saying God doesn't mean to harm us but prosper us. And he doubled down again instead of stopping the conversation there.
The rest was like talking about his beliefs and then when I talked about my beliefs. He's saying take his words into consideration before responding. Like he genuinely was not considering my beliefs. When I sent my beliefs, it's taboo. It genuinely started triggering me.
He started sending me more bible quotes. And you know how bible contradict sometimes, right? So when he sent me a bible quote, I decided to respond by his way, sending a video about bible quote that literally proved the contradiction. (<When I do that, he would say things like: oh, I'm new to this. I haven't read it.>)
He also said, "It is because God uses these types of seasons for my spiritual growth." It's god trying to tell me to depend on God more...
Like, wow... I felt really uncomfortable. He was saying the things my church was saying to me at that time. Gradually, the conversation ended. I also apologise for sharing the video.●
Also, I later felt bad because I think he might've responded like that without meaning to be rude to me. Then the next day... he posted that personal info of mine again... but this time, when I told him to remove it, he was reasoning to keep it public. I was feeling frustrated, but I didn't use any mean words. I just stood my ground firmly until he agreed to remove it. He just liked my messages, but there was no response. Then, the next day after he messaged me, I asked if he removed it, and he said yes. And the conversation started going smoothly.
But then, a few days later, I saw his stories... there were posts that were passive-aggressive and showed disrespectful actions committed toward other religions. I first said the posts were wrong and said I'm not surprised about him posting stuff like this because he indeed has been disrespectful recently. He admits that he took his beliefs too far. No apologies. Just that.
Then I broke the post down, so he got a better understanding of why - what he posted was disrespectful: I said, "What if someone went and performed satanic rituals in the church?" And he agreed that's gonna be disrespectful.
I said I've met lots of Christians like this who forgot the "loving" part and openly started being so disrespectful to others' beliefs.
And he said he encountered people like that. He also said, "Lot of them who declare themselves as Christians do not even follow the teachings." While doing the exact thing those people are doing.
I felt really bad because he's disrespectful toward me and my beliefs, too. I expressed my dissatisfaction and told him to be more mindful and also mentioned how he changed after he became Christian... because back then, he wouldn't say mean or bad things. I gave him facts about one of the religions he disrespected and how the members of that community were helping others and told him to do more research before belittling others' beliefs. I've told him I can't support him if he supports harmful behaviour, so I unfollowed him. He didn't say anything and just blocked me.
Is this a big overreaction on my side? Should I have been more patient? Am I an ableist? He did post about ableism before, I think. I don't have a way to ask him directly, so please help me be better?
