Bestbuy’s mistake worked out great for me

United States

A while back I went into a bestbuy and placed an order for a dishwasher to pick up a few days later. We ended up going with one that was about $500 GE on sale.
It was supposed to be ready Thursday but I got a text Wednesday night saying it’s ready for pickup. Cool, I head to the store, they scan my phone and check my id, then I wait outside and they load up my dishwasher. I get home and had a friend meeting me there to install for me. I let him get to it and a little while later I noticed the dishwasher wasn’t the one I ordered. Instead of a GE, they had given me a high end Kitchenaid. This thing is a beast and so much nicer than the one I was buying, and what I had before, and it was worth about 2x as much as the one I ordered.

Turns out they had another guy with almost an identical name order a dishwasher that was ready to pick up at the same time.
Several days later a bestbuy employee and store manager tried calling and texting me from personal phone numbers to complain about their warehouse mistake to me.
I called corporate and it turns out they were trying to go behind corporate’s back to resolve the issue through unofficial channels, and sharing customer info without consent, corporate told me I didn’t need to return anything lol.

According to the FTC I can legally keep it and expect a refund for the original one too, but I didn’t even request, maybe I should.
Hope this makes frustrated bestbuy customers happy to see a customer get a win.
