Newbie to Assetto Corsa (and sim racing in general), getting into it after the Steam summer sale

Other

I got a G29 (with a Diwangus wheel stand) initially to play Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator, which I have about 120 hours combined in. Checking out the summer Steam sales after my birthday though means that I'm randomly getting into sim racing now as a beginner, after picking up Assetto Corsa Ultimate (as well as a couple of other games).

I'm currently simming on my M4 Pro Mac mini (running the sims through Sikarugir), as I don't have a PC and likely won't for a good while (my Mac is primarily for work). This is another reason I got the G29, as it's confirmed to be supported on the latest version of macOS. After finding out about Torqer (https://torqer.app) though, I now know that other wheels are supported on Mac through that, so who knows what the future holds? I want to just get used to my G29 first, put in some good hours, have some fun and see if sim racing is for me over the longer term.

I can already see that Assetto Corsa is going to be more of a serious sim option than the other games I bought. I really enjoy the realistic feel and the general lack of "driftiness" in the physics.

I'm not running competitive times at all right now, and whenever I race, I am always coming in last with the AI, so I've got a lot of practice to put in, and I'm still having fun, even though I can't keep up to save my life!

I'm therefore currently learning technique, binging YouTube videos, mostly just running laps on my own and trying to get some consistency down with the Mazda MX5 Cup on Brands Hatch Indy, but if you have any other ideas for low-powered cars and short tracks I could try, please let me know!

I don't know if I'll actually be playing multiplayer or competing in anything for a while (as I said, I can't even win against AI yet), but I'm hoping I will eventually get somewhere!

Glad to be here, anyway!
