Question

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing okay.

I don't have CPTSD, so if it's not okay to post here please inform me, I will delete my post immediately. My reason for posting is because I'm unsure if my character's actions are a realistic depiction of someone with PTSD. The following will contain descriptions of suicide so please do not continue if uncomfortable.

I have a character in my story (not really looking to publish it) who deals with undiagnosed PTSD. Constant survival mode, fight or flight responses, irregular but frequent nightmares. He kind of just works through life either way because he has to and is always burdened by others and his job with things to do.

In his pre-teen childhood, his abusive father hung himself in the house, and he discovered the body when coming home from school. This is the main source of his trauma alongside the abuse.

Down the road, he will reconnect with an old friend and become close to him, which also leads to becoming a little attached to said friend (he barely has any other friends, and no one he truly feels close to). Eventually, this friend will reveal unintentionally (he was drunk) that he attempted in his teens, also by hanging himself. This will stick in my character's mind throughout the story, because he won't stop getting intrusive thoughts of the friend doing it again (this is also caused by the friend outwardly looking depressed sometimes) and occasionally gets nightmares of the friend and the father kind of merging together in that state he found him in. Generally, he will grow a little more paranoid and irrational, as the friend will also grow more depressed/visibly troubled at the same rate throughout the story, and the main character will lose another person he knows too, amping up the paranoia. The image of his friend doing it again stays in the back of his head constantly even if not always making him act this way.

Ultimately I'm not sure if I've overly dramatized this or reached too far. I would really appreciate input on whether this scenario is something plausible that a person like my character may experience, or if it looks totally unrealistic. Thanks to anyone for reading so far, and I wish the best for everyone here and their healing journeys.
