Better than I imagined

If I had any faith I lost it awhile ago.

Life has a way of beating it out of you one way or another.

You’ll question everything you’ve ever known,

and if any of it will amount to anything.

When

when everything happened,

I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to look you in the eyes again.

But

I remember

getting ice cream with you.

I forget when exactly,

just some time after,

and your words, they

they stuck with me.

“I think it’ll work out to be even better than you imagined.”

I don’t know

Maybe it was the tone of your voice

the smile as you said it

or just because

I really trust you, but

I believed you.

And

I still believe you.

I really don’t know what this life has in store

for either of us

but

I hope you know that

for as sure as you are for me,

I’m so certain it’ll all fall into place for you.

Life is so hard,

and I hope you know you’re in someone’s thoughts,

never leaving,

just hoping,

praying

to something I don’t believe in

that your smile is genuine.
