What was Rudi Garcia thinking? It was one of the worst decisions of the tournament.

Courtois said in an interview that he wanted to continue after the injury. He felt he was able to keep playing and finish the match. The only thing he told the coach was that he wouldn't be able to take long goal kicks. Even so, the coach substituted him.

You have the best goalkeeper in the world telling you he's carrying a minor injury but can still finish the game as long as he doesn't have to take long goal kicks and you still replace him with a goalkeeper who hadn't played a single minute before that. Brilliant.

"It's just a shame to go off. It was a special match. I felt good. I had taken two goal kicks. On the second one, I felt a bit more pain in the quadriceps. I let them know that I couldn't kick long balls anymore. I could have stayed in goal. But the coach told me he would sub me off if I didn't feel 100 percent. I wanted to keep playing out there, but he then made the decision to replace me. That's no problem; the team comes before everything."
