Too much trash in Scotland
I toured Scotland by car over the past two weeks, and it was absolutely stunning. I fulfilled a long-held dream and am taking away so many positive experiences. Better than the incredibly beautiful nature are the friendly and open-minded people. However, I would like to address something that struck me negatively: the large amount of litter in public spaces. The airport and the suburbs of Edinburgh were absolutely littered with trash—something I can perhaps understand. However, I consider it unnecessary for tourist spots in the Highlands to be affected in the same way. For instance, there were heaps of trash and broken boats in the harbor at Oban. At low tide, you could simply pick it up. But that doesn't seem to bother the city or the locals. There don't seem to be any municipal employees who take care of anything. I realize that a lot of trash is generated wherever there are lots of tourists. But I also feel that if I’m paying £7 for a beer at a pub, surely it should be possible for someone to pick up the trash.
PS: What I also find sad is that any whisky you can buy in Scotland is available in Germany for 20% less. That’s crazy.
