Should I change my strategy if my league mates can’t draft well.
I took over an orphan mid season last year and traded a lot of aging vets and excess players for picks planning to tank and rebuild. I ended up with 3 2026 firsts and 3 2027 but Due to a combination of my team performing a little better than expected and my severe underestimation of how bad some of the other teams and managers themselves actually were my team is actually a contending team still. I need an rb 2 and qb 2 (Sf league). I tried all off season to get a deal done for one of the 2 but due to inactivity from some managers and others overvaluing their players I couldn’t swing it. I did however manage to get a deal done for puka which was the 1.07/1.11/1.12 in 26 and a projected late first in 27. Knowing this is a weaker class with only 1 qb and 1rb that I knew wouldn’t make it to me and the top 3 WRs who would also be gone I felt pretty good about it. Fast forward to the draft both price and lemon fell to 1.07 the first pick I traded because saddiq and Kc went 5/6 and while I didn’t need lemon I would’ve been glad to take him. After looking back at the last 2 drafts they had before I joined the league I see some absolutely egregious picks. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but I’m talking Ben Sinnott being drafted with the 1.9 over maye/ladd/btj in 24 Btj being drafted behind Xavier legette and Adonai Mitchell that same year. Jaxson dart and Tyler Warren both going behind Jayden Higgins/rj Harvey/kaleb Johnson last year. The kinda picks that didn’t make a lot of sense in the moment and make even less sense now. With all that being said I’m wondering if I should value my mid-late round picks a little more since it seem like there will be at least 1 maybe even 2 picks that will be questionable at best early on or if I should just keep making trades that I think make sense based on what should probably happen and live with the results.
