In Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh, 78-year-old retired teacher Rajaram Goswami died by suicide after consuming poison. In a suicide note addressed to the judge, he held seven people responsible for his death, including former IPS officer L. V. Antony Devkumar.

According to the report, an SC/ST Act case was registered against Rajaram Goswami in 2022, and the matter is still pending in court. The next hearing was scheduled for 16 July. His family says he had been under severe stress because of the case.

In his suicide note, he wrote:

"I was forced to drink dirty water. When I refused, I was stripped in the middle of the road, beaten with sticks, and then I was the one sent to jail."

He further wrote:

"I have endured this suffering for 24 years. I am mentally shattered and no longer wish to live. L. V. Antony Devkumar was a cruel and oppressive officer. SP Antony personally sat in the police station and had a false SC/ST Act case registered against me."

L. V. Antony Devkumar was the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Lalitpur at the time of the incident and retired as a Director General (DG) of Police only a few days ago.
