Extended wait inpatient
I am 2 months into what I've been told will probably be a 6 month wait for a heart. I am listed status 2e with O positive blood. Physically I feel better than I have in a very long time (milrinone is a miracle), but they are struggling to keep my filling pressures within range.
At this point I've met several heart transplant recipients but none that were stuck in the hospital waiting this long. Friends and family assume that boredom is the hardest part. But it is also equal parts stress and terror. I work hard at keeping a positive attitude and being friendly and appreciative towards the nurses, doctors and staff. My family is very supportive and I don't want to share my burden on top of the burdens that they already are carrying.
If you had a long wait sitting in the hospital, how did you deal with it?
