AITAH for ending things without forgiveness?
My (now ex) gf [31] and I [26] met mid March. After the first date she said she didn't want another - still went on a couple. She was flaky at first - I said that wasn't working for me. She apologised and reached out after 2 weeks wanting to try properly. So we dated and it was nice, but I regularly did something to upset her. Two weeks ago it stabilised. Then I found out the reason for the flakiness: She had met someone simultaneously to me and preferred him first. He wanted to get back with his ex - so she gave me a chance. Finding out hurt a bit - but that's life.
(Now to a conversation that started last night and ended today noon.)
What I took issue with: she still sees him regularly. To her it's not romantic, but she's said things like "the friendship with him gives me things you cant". To me that's fine with friendships in general, but does it have to be the person she chose over me? I told her that I want to know all her friends - also the exes she still sees in friendly capacity, but I didn't want to meet that person. She even has a bite mark from him on her shoulder, which made things a bit weird for me during intimacy.
So I asked her if she could see that another person might see that as a form of maximalism, and that I wish I could see things fully rational, but that it's deeply hurtful and I don't see the how the cost of losing the friendship is higher than hurting me. She took offense at the insinuation of selfishness and insisted repeatedly on having done nothing wrong. It ended with her kicking me out of her flat this morning.
30 mins later a text like "If all you want to do is make me feel guilty and selfish I don't want you in my life". another 30mins later a long voice message: the friendship matters to her, if she gave it up she'd end up resenting me and she felt shamed by me. She asked me to reconsider. She never said sorry for hurting me - she felt sorry for how I felt about it and wished she "could have helped me" with the situation.
2h later she asked to call before my 2 week long trip. she mostly explained herself and asked forgiveness for kicking me out, otherwise she wasn't wrong about anything. I brought up the history (the rejection, the flakiness, feeling like I did everything wrong) and said that now I see the pattern. To her frequent fault rejections I said it's okay to make mistakes. She said I was throwing sand in her wounds and harping on her mistakes. I said I'd say nothing more, let her talk, and said goodbye.
I feel that something broke the moment I asked (or had to ask) for her to end things with that person. She had stated before that she has loss anxiety and I just didn't want to be the consolation prize forever, which in my mind I would be if she didn't chose to let him go.
AITA for how I handled it?
