What colour should a Pepperoni Original be please?

I haven't eaten one in years and have just unwrapped one annnnnddddd... It's like a light grey colour which is not how I remembered them at all so I binned it but now I am wondering if this is some new recipe or something.

Also I don't think I've ever eaten a UK Pepperoni as didn't live here until a little while ago so perhaps this is how the UK version has always been?
