People who grew up Muslim, how did you cope with non Muslim friends?

I didn’t grow up Muslim, so I never had to deal with this, but to the people who did, how did you cope with the fact they were going to burn forever? When I believed in Christian ECT back in my early Christian days (I’m a universalist now) I had to deal with similar, but I thought that they wouldn’t be conscious for it to be my friend that was being tormented.
