the biggest scam that humans accepted as normal

the biggest scam that humans accepted as normal is the systematic conversion of time into money at rates that don't reflect the value created — most people spend the majority of their waking lives generating wealth they'll never see, while being told this is simply "how things work." But if I had to pick one specific mechanism, it's planned obsolescence wrapped in consumer culture: we've normalized an economy that deliberately designs products to fail, bombards us with manufactured desires for replacements, and then measures our collective success by how fast we cycle through the resulting waste — calling it "GDP growth." Layered on top is the debt system that finances it all, where money is created as interest-bearing loans, mathematically guaranteeing that society as a whole can never fully repay what it owes, keeping nearly everyone running on a treadmill they were born onto and never consented to. The genius of the whole arrangement is that questioning it sounds naive or radical, while participating in it is considered maturity — which is perhaps the defining feature of any truly successful scam: not that people fall for it, but that they defend it.
