Yakuza 7 gameplay was a huge disappointment... (rant)

DISCUSSION

For the past 11~ months I've been playing the Yakuza series for the first time in release order. The other day I started Yakuza 7 and holy hell... the gameplay is so abysmal and not fun for me! I've always hated turn based combat and I hate it so much that I completely lost the motivation to continue with the mainline series, which is a huge shame since Ichiban seems a fantastic protagonist and the story had me hooked right from the start. I ended up deciding to skip Y7 and play the last three non turn based games I hadn't played yet, starting with Gaiden. Holy moly, the gameplay is incredible. From what I understand, it was originally planned as DLC for Y7, which makes it even more painful to think about the massive potential Y7 could have had if it hadn't switched to turn based combat. Genuinely, and without exaggeration, I'd rather play another Yakuza game with Dead Souls gameplay than Y7 (or IW). I just don't understand why RGG couldn't have made a spin-off with a turn based gameplay like Metal Gear Acid 1/2, instead of making such a drastic change to a mainline entry.
