Male authors writing lesbian characters?

I'm an author starting my next novel, and currently, I am planning on making the most important secondary character (the protagonist's best friend) either lesbian or bisexual, with her central plot line being her complicated relationship with her ex-girlfriend. I am a queer person, and I have been in same-sex relationships, but I am a cisgender man. Please, any lesbian or bisexual women, let me know your thoughts on this. What should I keep in mind? What are the classic no-nos of poor WLW representation? My worst nightmare is for someone to read my book and be put off by a representation that is either too stereotypical or that plays it too safe. Thank you very much!
