Day 1 on Concerta 27mg - are minimal effects and side effects normal?

Dosage/ β„ž question πŸ’Š

I was diagnosed with ADHD yesterday and took Concerta for the first time today.

Here's what I've been noticing:

1.Focus-wise, it seems to help just a little. The problem is I only really focus well on non-productive, dopamine-driven stuff like Reels, Twitter, and drawing, so it doesn't feel all that different from before.

(Phone screen time: 11hrs.... 30min, most of it on dopamine apps)

  1. Singing feels easier β€” maybe because I'm more tuned into sound?

  2. My energy/mood feels kind of down β€” though that could just be from being stuck at home/in my room staring at my phone all day.

  3. I feel hungry but somehow don't feel the need to eat. I didn't have my first meal until around 6 PM.

  4. Might be placebo, but it feels like I've been eating less. (Even that was the same pork cutlet lunchbox I usually eat, and I left some of it)

  5. Things around the house look slightly "off," kind of like putting glasses on after not wearing them.

  6. Felt a bit bloated.

  7. I keep forgetting things β€” like what I was going to write down or look up.

  8. Things feel a little strange β€” when I touch my skin it feels different than usual.

  9. Time feels like it's passing slowly.

  10. I feel kind of floaty (i.e. a bit drowsy/spacey).

  11. My mouth feels drier than usual.

  12. I've been going to the bathroom a lot.

  13. As the medication's effect wears off, I feel sleepy rn. (I'm writing this a little over 14 hours after taking it)

Is it common for the effects and side effects to feel minimal on the first day? and going through all this made me curious.

+ I didn't actually get tested for ADHD. I originally went in because of feelings of depression and some anxiety symptoms, but after hearing about my various symptoms, the doctor said it was textbook ADHD.

Could it be that I don't actually have ADHD, and this is just popcorn brain or dopamine addiction from being hooked on Reels?

When I was evaluated at age 5, the doctor said I didn't have ADHD β€” I was just really smart. So growing up, in early elementary school I had (these are all gone now, and I regret them a lot): a stuttering habit, interrupting class with unrelated questions, and being really blunt with friends β€” like telling a best friend right after she performed at the school talent show that she'd done it wrong and should fix it a certain way. And I realized it was wrong and apologized the next day. (I honestly don't know why I suddenly said something like that at the time. I really regret it, and even though when I told her about my diagnosis yesterday she said she'd forgotten about it β€” and even if she did remember, she wouldn't care β€” I still feel bad about it rn...)

These days: I procrastinate until right before tests and deadlines, I match 8 out of 12 items on an ADHD checklist, I have a hard time cleaning my room(my room is still dirty) , I've almost never actually given my best effort at anything, I get sudden mood swings, at school I'll excitedly sing next to a friend basically every time I'm bored, and I stay up all night and sleep during the day β€” all of which made me wonder if I might have ADHD. But then, I focus really well right before deadlines, during class, or when watching my favorite artists, so I figured it was probably just dopamine addiction.

So after getting diagnosed with ADHD, it was actually kind of a relief thinking "oh, this is why I was like that" β€” and I thought medication would make things better, but now that this is happening, I'm just so confused😭 (Even it's first day)

I could really use your advice!!

Thanks for reading this whole long post :)
