Is this normal in short-term bipolar therapy, or was this therapist just not the right fit?

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m being unreasonable or whether this therapist simply wasn’t a good fit for me.

For context, I was referred to a short-term therapist whose role was to focus specifically on bipolar disorder. I also have significant trauma-related symptoms, and for me my bipolar, trauma, executive functioning difficulties, and autism all influence each other. It’s hard for me to separate them into different boxes.

She started by asking about my week. I had experienced a significant mental health crisis that involved both bipolar symptoms and CPTSD flashbacks. I initially kept the trauma details vague, but she encouraged me to elaborate. After I did, she reminded me that we had agreed to focus only on bipolar. That left me feeling like I’d done something wrong, even though I was answering the questions she had asked.

Later she asked why I wasn’t trying to go to sleep earlier. I told her that nights are difficult because trauma flashbacks often happen when I try to sleep. Again, the conversation seemed to return to wanting me to stop focusing on trauma and redirect back to bipolar. By that point I felt like the context behind my struggles wasn’t being acknowledged.

I completely understand that this is a limited-time therapy program with a specific focus. I don’t expect one therapist to treat everything. What I’m struggling with is that my bipolar symptoms don’t feel separate from my trauma—they affect each other constantly. It felt like I was being asked to pretend they were unrelated.

She also wanted me to get up at 7am and go to bed at 10pm every night. I'm not working at the moment and she wanted me to get structure. But she kept disregarding that fact that I can't sleep because of trauma memories. It was just so confusing. It felt like she was viewing me as a one dimensional being and as a bipolar patient rather than a human being.

I’m wondering:
• Does this sound like a therapist appropriately keeping the sessions within the program’s scope?
• Or does it sound like this simply wasn’t the right therapeutic fit for someone whose diagnoses are so interconnected?
• If you’ve done short-term therapy, is this what it’s usually like?

I’m trying to decide whether I should continue seeing her or look for a therapist whose approach is more trauma-informed and integrative
